If you're into vaping, class yourself as a vaper and take part in this hobby/lifestyle as I do, you may well have heard of these atomizers. Today I'm going to talk a bit about the time I've spent using the Mason DumpTank 40mm
from VaperGate, and my experience with it. This is not strictly a review, just my own thoughts.
(and the Mason 40mm RDA) are the
reasons I got a custom made Biohazard Box Mod built. I needed a larger than average mod, to sit these beastly vape atomizers on top of. All of my other mods were just too small, in my opinion, to make these monsters look like they looked okay. I had tried all of my other mods, I thought it looked silly. Please, read on...
There's no doubt, this is a behemoth of a tank to use, or even find a mod to use it with that doesn't look completely overshadowed by it's sheer size and presence. This is definitely a "Ta da, I'm in the room!" tank among most vape gear. It's huge. However, I just happen to like big. The saying is "go big or go home" right? Well, I went big. I totally went there! Don't judge me.
I was prepared with my newly made, freshly charged, larger than average, LiPo battery-powered box mod, ready and waiting. I was going to have this tank
bestowed upon it like the crown at a coronation of a new royal leader... Okay, so the mod isn't royal, and the tank isn't made of solid gold, nor did I have any kind of scene setting music playing in the background as they do in movies, but it has that kind of omnipresence about it, I think.
With my working area cleared, my vape tools and gear all ready, I began to fit my first set of coils in this Mason 40mm Dumptank
. The thing I love the most about this tank, is the amount of build space you get. Build space is of big importance to me with my vape gear. So, big build deck, excellent. Lots of room to fit some pretty cool dual coils in there. Sometimes I build my own coils, other times I use coils I've got from other builders or a set of prebuilt coils from places like FastTech
. At the time I first got the tank, these were the coils I used...
As you can see, there is plenty of room in there for the coils. There are also two sizeable air flow holes to help the coils, cotton, juice and "SCIENCE YO!" to produce the great vapour.
, unlike some other tanks I've used in my history of vaping, screwed together and came apart very easily, which was great for reassembling once I'd installed the cotton wick. I used Cotton Bacon V2
for the wicking material on this occasion, which I then soaked with Muffin Man from One Hit Wonder E-Liquid
and pieced the tank back together, screwing the chimney and joint top into place over the coil deck. Et voila! C'est fini! She's finished. All I had left to do was fill the mighty tank with more juice. The DumpTank 40mm
holds around 17ml of e-liquid
, which is a phenomenal amount juice
, and thus ideal for people who vape as often or as much as I do. This is where I attached the tank to my current favourite box mod.
I left the tank to sit for a few minutes, it's just something I do to make sure the cotton is well soaked, despite I had already dripped the juice onto the cotton before piecing everything together. It's just habit and I don't think it hurts to have a little bit of patience. Just a little bit. Not too much. I mean, vapemail man, come on!
I can honestly say that day, and every day I've used the tank since (which is also every day) I've loved it. It's been fantastic for me and it's handled every single build I've thrown at it, often with room to spare. It's one of the very few tanks I'd considering buying a second one of, I like it that much.
Since getting the DumpTank
I've tinted the glass which now makes it appear mostly pink, with other hues and some sparkle at different angles. I like how it turned out, it looks different and I do like being a little bit different now and then.
Some people I've spoken to, but not a lot, have had problems with the tank leaking from the air flow holes. I personally haven't, it wicks fabulously for me every time, without leaking its fluids all over my hand. Always a bonus I think, after my experiences with older tanks leaking. Most would say it's simply down to the wicking, if the DumpTank leaks. **See How I wick my DumpTank below for help**
Depending on the build, it produces a combination of great clouds and flavour, despite it's a tank. We often say, you just don't get the same flavour from a tank as you do a dripper (or RDA). But, this one comes pretty close. It's still not of dripper quality flavour, ever so slightly muted when I've compared the two types of atomizer, but on the whole I'm massively impressed. As I said earlier, it's one of the very few tanks, or pieces of vape gear, that I'd consider buying more of. It's really never let me down and I've been using it for quite some time now.
So, in short, or as short as I can be, I sometimes type too much; The Mason DumpTank 40mm from VaperGate
is a great tank, awesome for cool coil builds, holds a shed load of e-liquid. It's perfect for me. This is now my daily tank. How I wick my DumpTank 40mm:
I use large coils more often than not, with larger inner diameters and often some thicker gauges of wire. This means, I can fit, for me, just the right amount of cotton through the coils, and feed it down into the dedicated holes/slots on the build deck, enabling me to wick and achieve a no leaks result.
You don't want the cotton to be dry, it'll just burn and taste rancid when you try to vape, but you don't want to leave the holes in the deck empty either, as the fluid may flow in too quickly and cause leaks. So, when I feed the cotton down through the holes in the build deck, I pull it through from the bottom til its sticking out of the holes on the sides of the deck. It doesn't matter how much is sticking out, I then use my scissors to trim the cotton to the very edge of the deck where the cotton just starts poking out. So it's level with the very edge of the deck. I use my tweezers to just nudge it inside a tiny bit so no little loose strands of cotton wick are poking out, because I'm fussy like that.
Once I've done that for both coils (I'm using a dual coil build) I'm then ready to soak the cotton in my favourite juice, like Muffin Man
, by dripping it directly onto the cotton, then piece the tank back together, fill the tank with the juice and allow it to sit for a few moments.
The few moments are now up... I get to vape using my DumpTank again. Hurray!
